Superior Poultry in Chinatown - I Can't Believe It's Chicken

I used a dim sum breakfast on Sunday at Ocean Seafood as an excuse to go to Superior Poultry (Broadway, east side of the street, with the white chicken on top) to get a chicken for Monday night dinner. Went to Superior instead of the place across the street as it smelled beter and their birds looked better. Got a 5-1/2 lb white chicken for $7.50. Butchered earlier that morning. Cut off the feet from the drumsticks and saved them for stock. Cut off the head from the neck (Mrs. Swift got a great picture of me talking to the decapitated chicken head). Cooked the bird beer can style for 1-1/2 hours. We were floored. Cooking style aside, this was the best tasting chicken either of us can remember. The chicken flavor was deep, rich and intense. The skin was thinner than supermarket birds and crisped up grandly. Zacky and Foster's can't compare to the flavor of this chicken. Next time, though, I'll bring a small ice chest as the bird was just sitting on the stainless counter and didn't feel chilled.
