Sunflowers on Peace Street near downtown Raleigh has long been a dependable lunch spot for good sandwiches and salads. Now, they have started staying open for supper from 5 to 8, Tuesdays thru Fridays. They offer three or four supper entrees, which change every couple of weeks, in addition to the regular menu. The setup is still informal -- you order at the counter and take a table inside or out on the patio, which has a view of the parking lot. But the plating is upscale, and all of the supper entrees that I have tried were excellent. Recent entrees include pork tenderloin marinated with lemon and rosemary served with zucchini tian and grilled tomato. And linguini with shrimp, tomatoes, and spinach. And salad Nicoise with a grilled yellowtail tuna steak. Prices for the supper entrees are in the $10-13 range, making this the best value I know. This is what chowhounds look for a yet-to-be-discovered spot with high quality and great value.
