when: july 22nd (hence, the short review. memory retention isn't what it used to be)
who: chin + 3
what: we were offered a large selection to choose from: six apps, six mains and four desserts. (apps) salad of mixed greens(ok), spicy scallops (v.good), mushroom fricasse (v. v. good!), apple/raisin/thyme tart(v. good, nice crumbly shell) (as an aside they someone in the restaurant ordered the seafood seviche, and looked beautiful! almost wished i'd orderd it) (mains) new york striploins w/blueberry sauce x2 (v. good), pistachio crusted salmon (i really enjoyed it. nice and moist, cooked perfectly!!!), chicken w/peppercorns ("all good") (dessert) we were lucky enough to have four of us, so we tried one of each: banana/mango tartufo rolled in coconut (store bought, but still good), lemon tart, chocolate cake, chocolate creme brulee. all were good, we devoired them plates in mere minutes...
as an aside, our waiter Larry was pretty cool. in other words he had a "consistent sense of irony" (c) Viola. its a nice place for dinner. really comfy. a good "neighbourhood" restaurant. yknow? and at $30 a person, a really good deal. Larry also said that they'd change the menu one more time before they stop offering summerlicious (labour day) then the new fall menu kicks in (btw, the summerlicious is their regular menu save the calamari for app and lamb for entree)
when asked where we heard of Foccaia (my answer: chowhound.com) Larry mentioned that another table of two heard about them from here. who was it? i was the table of four (3 filippinos and 1 korean)
