My wife and I are planning a visit to San Francisco in April and would like some suggestions from local Chowhounds. We have few food prejudices, though we would prefer things that are uniquely San Franciscan in identity (e.g. Cioppino, Dungeness crabs) or cuisines that we don't see any/much of in New Orleans (e.g., Peruvian, Dim Sum, etc.)... A few places that we already have our eyes on are Gary Danko, Yank Sing, Bix (we're jazz lovers, too), and Tadich Grill. We love neighborhood "joints" and hole-in-the-wall type places as well. Where would you eat if you had four or five days to chow down??
This is definitely off topic, but if you have an opinion at a hotel near the waterfront (The Argonaut) versus lodging near Union Square (The Orchard), that also would be much appreciated.
We're going to spend some time in Napa and/or Sonoma as well, but we'll post that request separately. (We are over 50, but barely.) Thanks to all.
