I have read a lot of studiokitchen comments on the board and finally went with some co workers. Every bite of every dish was magnificent. Truly outstanding food. I am so ashamed that I sound like a rock band groupie but this was probably the best meal we ever had. We had no real diet restrictions and just basically told tthe chef (shula ?? ) to have fun. Boy was it fun ? He actually has a good sense of humor.
Our menu had 4 courses and was printed as :
Macaroni and Cheese
Soup, salad and sorbet
Surf and Turf
Peanut butter and jelly
Our first course "macaroni and cheese" was a small ramekin of buubling brown homemade macaroni with gruyere cheese sauce. It had a soft poached egg in the middle and was finished at the last minute with white truffle shavings tableside. unbelievable.
our second course "soup salad and sorbet" was a scoop of tomato/strawberry sorbet with oven dried tomato and 100 yr old balsamic vinegar (possibly the best thing I have ever tasted), a slightly warm salad of yellow low acid tomatoes and fresh cheese curds with rosemary oil, and a demitasse cup of the best tomato soup with a tiny piece of butter poached lobster in it. The whole thing was served on a big square elegant plate.
Our third course "surf and turf" was a roasted piece of angus beef filet on sauteed arugula with a chanterelle/lobster crepe and sea urchin butter. again...amazing.
We were all tickled pink by this point to see what "peanut butter and jelly" would be. It was a bittersweet chocolate panna cotta with spicy peanut sauce, virgin peanut oil and slice of chocolate bread pudding cooked like french toast. Absolute best dessert ever and the best meal I have had in philly to date.
