About 15 years ago when I built my wine cellar the only bottles I owned and was planning on buying had corks. As a result, 95% of my cellar space was constructed to hold bottles horizontally. These days I am buying more and more wines with screw caps as better wines become available with that type of closure. Unfortunately I no longer have space to store the wines vertically in my cellar. Is it ok to store them for an extended amount of time horizontally? I’m concerned about the wine being in constant contact with the cap for years. What is your opinion? Is there any harm/risk of storing them horizontally for the long term?
Thanks and have a good day.
