Storing beef tenderloin

Just picked up a tenderloin that I have no set plans for (on sale >$5/lb). It's cryovaced with a sell by date of July 6th. How long can it sit in the fridge? If I freeze it what's the best way to go about it? Will freezing it totally screw up the texture flavor of it? Thanks for any input.
