do not know why Bon Appetit rated Stella the new hot restaurant in the South End.. there are SO many better places (perdix, umbra, hamersley's) just ate there the other night. had mussels, pasta bolognese, and chocolate mousse. mussels were comsi comsa. many of the mussels were broken or w/o the protein.... the sauce was good however. but if a chef plates a broken mussel, i wonder how vigilant they are on checking if the mussels are healthy and alive before cooking/serving them. the bolognese, which was recommended by the waiter, had an overwhelming iron (liver flavor). i wonder if the chef knows that you are not supposed to simmer liver in the sauce but rather add it at the end to add to the thickness/succulence/umami of the sauce. it was very disappointing. the chocolate mousse was great. i don't think it is worth a second try however. sorta wish i had just gone back to my aforementioned regulars.
