Ok, I ve been to all the big time steakhouses in Manhattan (and lugers in Brooklyn)....Wolfgangs is my favorite but for the best casual value.....Westside steaks on 10th and 44th. Nothing dry aged and not prime but you arent paying prime prices either. My wife and I were went there last week for quick dinner (passed it while driving in). It is a relatively new, very clean, neighborhood place. The owner/chef greeted us at the door and his wife was our server. The atmosphere was really nice, the service was perfect.....not over the top but our bread basket (great rolls) was refilled without asking and our wine glasses were never empty for a moment. It just had a very warm feel to it. I had a 20oz t-bone while my wife had the 14oz strip. The steaks were perfectly cooked and simply seasoned with sea salt. They were quite tender and flavorful. We had two sides (hash browns and bacon)....gotta love thick sliced steakhouse bacon. A couple glasses of wine and coffee........the best part.......the bill was under $105.00!!!!! What a deal for a quiet, extremely enjoyable meal in Manhattan. Yes you can get a better steak (ie Wolfgangs, DelFriscos, Keens etc) but you will be paying double and none of those places matched the warmth of Westside. Westside did a really nice job, the steaks were great and the value is awesome. I would highly recommend.
