OK ladies and gentlemen, lemme tell you the story:
Last year I wanted to take my girlfriend out for Steak Frites for her birthday. She fell in love with the dish in LAS VEGAS of all places, we ate at the MON AMI GABI restaurant (The one with the balcony to the street) @ the Paris Hotel. She mostly loved the awesome thin FRENCH FRIES, but also how the steak was pounded thin and served with a nice [not sure, but maybe reduced red wine] sauce.
Anyways, i asked at LA.EATS newsgroup and people sent me to MICHAEL's restaurant in SANTA MONICA. We went for her b-day and I must say I was really dissapointed. The food was just pretty darn good (not by any means exceptional) for its price range... But what dissapointed both of us most was the "Steak Frites" they served was nothing special at all. Just a huge THICK CUT (hey!?) steak and some equally thick fries. The steak was not served with any kind of sauce.
If you ask me, it wasn't the dish we were looking for.
SO, knowing all this, where is the best steak frites in town? Does LA FRITE serve it (woodland hills & encino, i believe)? Anywhere?
I am talking nice, thinly pounded steak and skinny, shoestring like fries FRIED in the good stuff!
