considered this place for a special dinner but opted for some place else... however could not get the idea of oysters out of my head. so off to starfish for the evening!
i have only been once before and the oysters were lovely, the mains were alright and the service a tad unavailable for me. however the room has a great ambience and i can't resist delectable raw food.
this visit though, was fabulous. i'm truly impressed by the quality of the oysters available and the hospitality that patrick bestows.
my dining companion and i only really wanted oysters for the evening and started off with patrick's platter which included a selection of 16 oysters from 5 varieties that varied between salty, sweet and creamy. it's a great way to have maximum choice without spending a ridiculous amount of money.
at this point we were fuller than originally expected and rounded out our meal by sharing an appetizer, grilled escarole on spinach greens with pearl onions and balsamic. very simple but beautifully rich and smooth. all of it was very fresh and incredibly tasty.
my only complaint is that our server was somewhat unavailable because it seems that they're constantly shorthanded for the kind of attention this place demands. my iced tea ordered at the beginning never arrived.
that being said, it was completely made up by the personality of patrick. it might have been because we were sitting right in front of him but he offered up suggestions for appetizers, made sure we had everything within enough time and was more than happy to describe the items we were eating. additionally, we were so enthralled with our oysters and watching him shuck that he noticed we were curious about a particular type. at the end of our meal, to my surprise, he presented us two of them for us to try.
maybe i'm just a sucker for free food, but i think it was one of the best dining experiences i have ever had. patrick beware, i may see you again sooner than you think ;)
