Little Star Pizza

nja | Mar 3, 200508:50 PM

I tried Little Star Pizza for the first time last night. Erika and I split a small Little Star Spinach, which comes with ricotta, feta, mushrooms, onions, and garlic ($16). Melanie did a good job describing the crust (link below). While I usually dig cornmeal-based breads, I've never been a fan of cornmeal thin crust pizza. But I really liked the flavor and texture of it in a deep dish, especially the slightly fried exterior ("like a corndog" said Erika). I also liked, though didn't love, the sauce. Unfortunately there wasn't enough of it as the ingredients underneath were peeking out in numerous places. I very much disliked the spinach: the large leaves had a very strong metallic taste. I also missed mozzarella cheese, as the ricotta and feta were just too dry.

All in all, this particular pizza didn't come together for me. Which is unfortunately, I was hoping to find a suitable surrogate for Erika's insatiable craving for the Zachary's Special. The price was also a bit steep, as this $16 pie was much less massive than the equivalent at Zachary's. But there was enough good about it that'll I'll probably give it another try with different toppings.
