My husband and I have been partial to Four Square over Nana's, Mag Grill, and some of the comparable CH places but hadn't been in for a meal in quite some time, so I thought I'd share this evening's dining outcome.
I had a green salad with a truffle-chive dressing. Very nice. They hid these great parmesan tuile crackers under the leaves and were much better than croutons when broken up. I also had the turbot. The preparation was excellent- the fish was rolled around a shrimp mousse and wrapped in a puff pastry. About 3 inches thick and perfectly cooked- not at all greasy. The fish was dressed in a Meyer lemon cream sauce that was studded with tiny shrimp, bitty beets and bigger golden beets, roasted garlic, spinach and herbs. I know this sounds heavy, but it didn't come out that way. Much, much more exciting than most fish preparations that I've seen anywhere recently and well executed. Dessert was an apple-caramel upside down cake with butter pecan ice-cream. The ice-cream was a bit tasteless and had some icky crystals on it, but the cake was pretty good.
My husband had a good gumbo and then a venison entree- it was on this herbed spatzle with cabbage and a chocolate stout sauce. It didn't look good to me at all on the menu, but I was sooooo wrong. And managed to steal a significant portion of it to compensate for my error. I have a patient husband.
My overall thoughts: yum, but pass on dessert. I always order it and have uniformly been disappointed. But I'll forgive them almost anything at this moment...
