Joy America Café is shutting its doors today. For the first time in 15 years, Spike and Charlie do not have an operating restaurant. Since opening their original location, Spike and Charlie’s, in 1991, Baltimore has been blessed with great venues and chefs. Many of Spike's former chefs are enjoying great careers right here in Baltimore.

I spoke with Spike this past Friday and he reassured me that he “still has that fire” to run an operation and he is currently looking at opportunities. In the mean time, he will spend some well earned time off with his family. On a side note, for those curious about what is happening at the original location of Spike and Charlie’s, the location where 23rd Degree closed after four months, a new seafood restaurant will be opening. Tentatively named Robert Oliver Seafood, they are hoping to open in April.
