Went to Southwark on Saturday night. Overall impression: really loved it. The feel, the atmosphere, the smiles, the service, the food. I had the conch beignets which were beignet-y (as opposed to frittery as in key West) and there was a nice amoutn of finely diced conch. Boyfriend had the dungeness crab salad on begian endive with crisp pancetta and it rocked !!!!Light vinegary dressing , a hint of tarragon. He then had the smoked beef rib which was really nice accompanied by red potato salad and cabbage something something. The only dish that wasn't a hit was my scallops and squid with a lemongrass sauce. Only two scallops, tiny calamari rings and tentacles, medium-warm carrot and cabbage slaw type stuff. and no starch. adn not a ton of flavor. And clearly not a ton of scallops/squid. The strawberry rhubarb tart was good. Oh - bread was excellent - a bit of a cheesy flavor and the whipped butter had a hint of citrus zest, i think lemon, which was delightful. Staff was excellent and smiling. Would definitely go back again.
PS - is it Southwark (pronouncing the W) or something like "sutherk" as one would say in England? Dunno.
