We're going out for my brother's birthday, and my stepfather can be hard of hearing, especially in loud restaurants (or when listening to my mother...ahem). Ideally, I'd like someplace relatively close to the Westside, although West Hollywood would be okay. Some ideas I have been entertaining have been: Rocca, Josie (although we've been there a lot and I wouldn't mind trying something new), Lucques, and EM Bistro. Of the above, Rocca and EM are the two I am not familiar with, so input would be appreciated.
And went to Mako a few weeks ago. Really, really spectacular food. The only thing we didn't love was the crispy quail, which, sadly, was the last course we tried so it kind of dulled how amazing the rest of the dinner was. Such as...braised pork, meltingly tender but not fatty. Fish special with truffles--Sweet Fancy Moses! Everything else...sigh. And the butterscotch pot de creme for dessert--I think I visited another plane of existence. Mom also had the flight of sake and the bf had a beer. Total for all three of us, plus their drinks, came to a shade over $100, which was a pleasant surprise (esp. since mom picked up the tab).
Thanks for your help, Hounds.
