Last month I stopped by Society Bakery & Cafe located in the Antique Society in Sebastopol. This venue has been home to a number of bakeries that i've enjoyed over the years. This one is a winner too.
Near the end of the day, the selection was a bit low, but wanting to support small businesses, I grabbed one of nearly everything that was left. The line-up includes several gluten-free items. Normally given more options, I probably would not have selected the Lemon-blueberry cake. But this was a happy discovery. This is a delicate, fine-grained loaf fragrant with lemon zest and studded with fresh blueberries.
Of the cookies, my favorites were the Cowboy cookie, studded with nuts, butterscotch and chocolate chips in a chewy coconut-flavored base; the crisp-edged chewy Ginger Molasses cookie, and the Chocolate Chunk. The Oatmeal Cranberry was fine, and I did not care for the Peanut Butter cookie that was low on peanut flavor.
The bakery offers espresso drinks and light meals as well from the window that can be enjoyed at outdoor cafe tables.
