HELP! Small Gathering on the LES or in E. Village... One91?!?

Fred | Jun 17, 2005 11:46 AM

Okay, I should have done this much earlier, but I'm trying to find a place to gather up to a dozen friends on Saturday night. Tomorrow! I'm hoping the summer slow-down will help my belated cause.

We're going to see some live music at The Living Room, on Stanton and Ludlow at 10pm (come on by!), and we want to eat nearby. I want something super-casual and initially thought we could just do a place I like in Chinatown that has a super-mellow (ie mostly empty) upstairs, but upon closer examination, it's not really all that close.

Here's the thing: I'm not a big fan of the LES and loud, crowded hipster joints -- especially not for this sort of thing. I want a place that's casual and affordable, not too uptown/upscale, not too downtown/downscale (or grungy), not too large and not too small, and quiet but not so quiet it's dead. I went around last night and checked out the following suggestions, and none of them seemed like what I was looking for:

-Epicerie
-Stanton Station
-Kuma Inn
-Apizz
-Paladar
-The Hat
-Boc Chica
-Lil Frank's Place

I've looked at One91 on Orchard, and while it's a little pricy, there's a really nice corner of the garden in the back that would work. They're not sure if they can accommodate. Maybe it will work out, maybe it won't. Anyone know anything about the food?

Any other suggestions?

HELP!

Thanks,

Fred
