Another shout out for S&I Thai....

I quite love it...Boy, is that little strip of Allston chow-rich...You could get quite a smorgasbord by hitting Gitlo, Reef (which I don't really care for...) and S&I,which I am totally in love with...

It was dead when I went in at lunch today. I got a parking spot right in front, and Mom's undivided attention...I went right to the gorgeous pictures labeled in Thai...i pointed to a few, asked what they were, asked what else didn't have meat...She mentioned a few dishes she could make without meat, but since I saw three of my favorites (yen ta fo soup, Jungle Curry, and seafood salad) on the wall, I decided to go there..I requested Thai spicy, pet ma, anything I could. They complied.

Jungle Curry, also called Sour Curry, is made without coconut milk, and is more like a bowl of soup, with lots of veggies, and fish. I've had it in the past with only hollow stem watercress. This version was a little easier to eat, because it held a variety of vegetables. They packed the fried fish chunks separately, so I could pour the soup over them at home. My lips were burning, and I mean that in a good way.

The seafood salad wasn't a basic yum tom...No shredded papaya or cabbage, just some slivered onion, and plenty of cold, marinated, shrimp, squid, mussels, and a perfectly poached scallop or two...My lips were burning again.

About as much seating as Rod Dee 2, and even less atmosphere...It's actually called S&I Thai to go, so maybe that's what they prefer...Whenever I find a parking space, I'm there...
