sherer's is family owned for generations, highly recommended and could not be cuter, esp the old fashioned ice cream box graphics (wish i had a pic of that to show you). we stopped in to get some black walnut for my mom in-law. sherer's is on north main st in dayton.

my spouse and sis in-law said they would only hire boys back in the old days, but the old man must have long died because when they went inside there were only pregnant girls with tatoos all over them behind the counter! :laugh:
note sherer's has some old school styles such as the uncommon midwestern fav "blue moon" flavor. here's a quote about that one i saw on a blog:
"I am the granddaughter of the Sherer's in Dayton, Ohio. We make our blue moon with shredded pineapple and fruit juice. It's not often that you find real homemade Blue Moon ice cream! If you're ever in the Dayton-Cincinnati- Columbus area, I recommend the drive in to try ours!
