Last night, we decided to have dinner at the Shell Station in Stratford, CT. It had been several years since we dined there and thought it would be worth trying again. I am delighted to report that we were very, very pleased with our meal. There are no pretensions of haute cuisine, but the food was uniformly well prepared and presented. The sushi bar looked very inviting, but last night, we were in the mood for well prepared seafood, and we were not disappointed. I had the boulliabaise, and while definitely not the classic preparation, it was absoutely delicious! The bowl contained a very flavorful broth and was brimming with fish and shellfish. My wife had a special - grilled escolar with a very flavorful salsa - absolutely superb. Both entrees were accompanied by a very nice salad with a light, creamy ginger dressing served on the side. With a bottle of a nice New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, the entire bill was $60.00 - a very considerable bargain.
Again, if you are looking for fine dining, the Shell Station is not your destination. If, however, you want excellently prepared food at a very moderate cost, The Shell Station earns my strongest endorsement!
