Hidden away in a very small strip center on Travilah Road in Potomac/Gaithersburg is a spot that James G read about in a local Chinese newspaper.
I stopped in for lunch and found very pleasant surroundings with comfortably cushioned banquettes and good lighting. One large round table was taken by what I assume were late/middle aged chinese, speaking chinese. The other tables were locals taking advantage of the $5.50 lunch special. Trying to be a little bit of "all things to all people" they also offer sushi and Thai food.
It's easy to pick out what may be the more authentic items on the menu, especially great sounding noodle soups. I had the Steamed Pork Buns, Shanghai Style (6 for $4.25) which were excellent. Nice soft dough surrounding a nugget of well seasoned pork and lots of juice. Snow Peas in Ginger Sauce (app for $3.50) were delicious. These sweet, not stringy, crunchy snow peas had a sparse, wounderfully oily, gingery, sesame-type sauce. Finally, Duck Gazua Shanghia Style (app for $3.95) was a plate of cooked, sliced, pickled duck stomach which had a remarkable resemblence to duck breast with a bit of gristle, perfumed with rice vinegar and star anise served room temp.
Can't imagine many of you are going to find yourselves passing this out-of-the-way place anytime soon, but if you do, I'd recommend it.
