A quick thanks to Boston hounds for their advice on our recent quickie trip to Boston. Did the requisite North End cannoli tour (I'm in the Modern's camp, hubby preferred Maria's) and happily introduced some friends to Khao Sarn thanks to Chowhound. We ordered based on the posts from the July dinner there - and were very happy - with the quality, quantity and spice levels of the food. Very nice service too.

Our friends (recent transplants from NoCalif) were very happy to know about Khao Sarn - and I encouraged them to join the Boston Chowhound crowd too ....

We also had a Friday dinner at Sonsie on Newbury - mostly because we were staying near there (Charlesmark Hotel - new hotel across from the main library, I'd recommend it!) and their menu looked good. What a scene - very loud and crowded - but we were able to walk in without a reservation around 7 pm.

Fresh, seasonal ingredients done well - wonderful tomato (real summer tomatoes) and smoked mozzeralla salad, smoked salmon, pizza with grilled corn and double smoked bacon (altho how can you go wrong with crispy bacon on anything!), grilled eggplant were all really good. Hubby wasn't quite as impressed with vietnamese spring rolls and his green salad was very over-dressed. Service was friendly and efficient, esp. considering how crowded it was.

Looks like it's much less of a scene at lunch.

So much to eat and so little time!
