sf chowhound needs budget-minded recs :)

hey guys,

as a san franciscan chowhounder who happily contributes ideas to our visitors on the sf board, i'm hoping you all can help me out with some great, cheapish ideas to give me a real taste of boston for my trip this thurs thru monday.

i'm staying at 5 longfellow place, and all i know is i'm near H&M :). i'm a law student so i don't have a lot of funds, and i won't have a car, just the T and my feet.

i don't know much about boston's cuisine, but i'm all about the hole-in-the-wall authentic ethnic eateries, though i will spend more if it's worth it. i'll also need one pretty nice, non-stuffy place to take my hosts for dinner.

any advice you guys can give would be *really* appreciated. i hear there is "real" pizza in boston. is it soft-shell crab season? where is the best chowder? what should i eat? do?

if there's a thread that covers this already, i'd really appreciate the link!

thanks so very very much!!!
