Seattle - truly awful bread - Boulangerie

Randy Brook | Sep 19, 200311:13 PM     2

I have seen the Boulangerie on 45th in Wallingford go downhill from its early days of great croissants and baguettes. But today hit a new low.

I was passing by and decided to pick up a sandwich - they always have them ready, so it's quick if not great. Then I thought of maybe a walnut rye, which used to be a really good bread there. They didn't have them so I decided to try an herb rye. Big mistake.

The texture was like sawdust. Even a low gluten (non-bread) flour couldn't be like that. This wasn't stale - that would be hard. Nor was it like a baking soda bread. It was like barely held together sawdust. The crust rivaled Wonder Bread in softness. Absolutely inedible.
