The first two times I got Pho Ga from Pho Cyclo (across from the Sodo Center) I thought it was unbelievably good. Fragrant broth, tender chicken, great spicing. Both orders were take out. Last night I stopped in around 6:15 to pick up an order to go and my first instinct was to walk back out. I didn't follow it, but maybe I should have. There were only two parties of two in the place (it closes at 7) and the area near the order counter had a strong smell of rotting garbage. I persevered anyway (hmmmm?) and got an order of Pho Ga and tofu salad rolls. It was not nearly as good as before: the broth lacked the complexity of flavor, the chicken was tough, the (separately bagged) basil and bean sprouts were slimy and way past their prime. The salad rolls were dry and tough.
I know I've read glowing reports on chowhound before,as well as having had two good prior experiences. Did I just get really unlucky or has this place gone rapidly downhill? Any opinions?
