Sandwiches at Yellow the Cafe - Navy Yard

Steve | Sep 5, 202104:53 AM     1

To eat one of the sandwiches at Yellow the Cafe, you have to be ok with getting your hands absolutely filthy. There's not really a nice or polite way to eat them.

They start off with a thick, puffy pita covered in za'atar, so your hands will get covered as well. I was there on a Friday, the day when they offer an Urfa hot chicken sandwich. Not spicy hot at all, though plenty of spices used nonetheless.

The sandwich starts off with a huge slab of the chicken protruding from the sandwich. It is fried to a super-crunchy dark, dark brown crisp. It's a bit daunting at first. Inside there is a sizable pickle spear and some other vegetables in a garlic sauce. It is an expensive sandwich, probably big enough for two, but so good that you might finish it anyway. I doubted I would finish mine, but there I was, a while later, wondering where it all went.

There are also sandwiches of charcoal chicken and charcoal lamb on the regular menu. and they are already calling to me.
