San Francisco Chow Come to Town- 2 meals

Surprising my gf (her first time) with a weekend in NY, focused on museums and a show but of course want to show off the food too...

Looking for places to eat- not too trendy, ultra-modern or stuffy.
We get lots of Asian and Cal cuisine in the Bay Area, so prefer something different.
Italian, French (classic or modern) or Indian (Pakistan or Northern India) preference, but open to suggestions.

My girlfriend loves steak, lamb, basically big into the meat scene, I prefer fish or pasta- we are not dieting in any way. We don't really drink (I know its a crime to live in the Bay Area and not care about wine), so the wine menus are not important either...We can dress up or down, we prefer good service, but did I mention its all about the food.
Simple food is great, organic is great, but not necessary.

Somewhere we can secure reservations without connections. No limit in budget or cost, exquisite food (expensive or cheap) is the most important factor above all else. We do not care to eat somewhere that is a standard/classic if the food is bad. We don't care who is eating at the table next to us or which TV chef is in the kitchen- just great food please.

We are staying in Mid-town (WEST 57TH- Holiday Inn) but are confortable with subways and/or willing to take a cab for one special lunch/evening or night.

Saturday lunch and/or dinner
Sunday lunch and/or dinner

Hopefully around 2 suggestions (one $$$-$$$$$ and one $-$$$) would be great, if anyone can help ??

Thank you in advance !!
