Salang Pass, Fremont -- still good

I was recently looking for a nice lunch spot mid-way between Oakland and San Jose and remembered Salang Pass, the Afghani restaurant in Fremont. It had been at least 2 years so I'm happy to report it was as good as I remembered. Two of us ordered:

- Aushak and mantoo: 2 kinds of dumplings (leek and beef) with yogurt and meat sauce, nice comfort food.
- Borani kadoo: cooked chunks of pumpkin, less sweet than Helmand's pumpkin dish, delicious.
- Chicken kabob: very juicy, tender chicken with well seasoned, toothsome rice and half a broiled tomato.

Microwaved leftovers were perfect for today's lunch, the chicken was still moist and succulent.

They brought us a perfectly acceptable cucumber-tomato salad and good flatbread with the meal.

My iced tea was tasty, though bits of cardamom kept ending up in my mouth. (I wouldn't mind normally but this was a 'first date' situation.)

Service was efficient and friendly. We were seated directly under a speaker and when I commented that the music was a bit loud they quickly turned it down. The place was never more than a quarter full while we were there.
