This may not be news to many, but it was to me. Saffon has been on my restaurant Dead Pool list for a long time now, and it finally bit the dust. Interesting concept, terrible execution in the kitchen, and some of the laziest, most inept service I've experienced in Boston. It's another example of how a Newbury Street patio can keep even the lamest place going for years.
Saffron is to be replaced by Inq Bistro, "a Dan Kaufman restaurant". What else has he done? Any hints of its menu and concept? Its website offers no clues beyond the phrase, "contemporary food, contemporary design". What does that mean: sauce squiggles and vertically-stacked entrees? Art on the walls for sale?
