Went to Eastern Standard for lunch today. They are still offering the regular menu, plus a RW menu. All items on RW are not on their regular menu. 3 choices for each course.
This is my first time dining at Eastern Standard, I really liked the decor and ambience. The staff is great - everyone is smiling and courteous!
The food is a little disappointing. The menu looks great and I had high expectations. Looking at my neighboring diners' food (from the regular menu), looks like those taste better than mine
Apps - Butternut Squash soup. I thought it tasted like watered down and not much flavor. Not as thick and creamy as the ones I'm used to having.
Entree - Kobe skirt steak. This is an interesting dish. The steak (with mushrooms and fresh herbs) and barley comes in a small bowl. Then there's a small gravy bowl with jus in it. When it was presented, the server told me to pour the jus into the steak in order to completely cook the beef. Well, the problem is the jus isn't hot enough to cook anything! I poured it in and the beef pretty much stays as rare as it was. It was cooked between rare & med-rare. Not much flavor in the jus either. Other entree options was a pasta or skate wing.
Dessert - a goat cheese (I forgot the name) served with fresh honeycomb, candied chestnuts, and fennel crackers. This was pretty nice.
Overall, not that great. Next time I'll stick to the regular menu.
