my 5 friends and were discussing a strategy for RW ... try someplace grand and be happy for a tiny taste (and plan to eat later) OR try someplace where your $35 would otherwise almost cover your meal, so that you're less teased and less treated like a "tourist"
I have only done RW once (last week, actually), and it was somewhat embarrassing for the restaurant (they clearly had the B-string [putting it generously] serving and hosting), the food was almost insulting (not bad, but almost laughable) and we couldn't even get our preferred reservation time ... not to mention we dressed for the place and found everyone around us wearing jeans
if anything, that experience spurred me on to try RW again...
i was thinking of chanterelle ... we've never been there, we would be content with a taste rather than a gorging, and i presume the service must be of the highest standards
other options are appreciated, but i'm really curious about whether chanterelle could turn this whole thing around for me/us
i suppose what would resolve all this is: what can you really get for a $35 promo at a place that's normally 4x that much?
