I'm going to Lake Como for the first time in mid-April to celebrate my birthday with a few friends, and since we only have two days there I'm nervous about which restaurants we choose. I prefer rustic food to fancy/fussy food. In Tuscany it was so easy to stumble on an amazing taverna with simple yet incredible food that wasn't too expensive (ie, under 50 euros pp), but in Sicily this summer I had trouble finding it even with Osterie d'Italia — the food, at least in the towns we visited, seemed so overly ambitious, which is not really my style. I'm well aware that Como is an island where lots of tourists and rich people vacation and it won't be easy to find what I'm looking for there, but if anyone has suggestions let me know. We are staying about 20 minutes' drive north of Como on the east side of that part of the lake, almost directly across the lake from Cernobbio. We will have a car and are also planning to take some boat rides as well. All suggestions welcome!
