Three of us had dinner at Rosa Mexicano (58th St & 1st Ave. location) on Saturday night. Of course, we had the tableside guacamole as an app. and their signature drink; the pomegranate margarita. It was all very good. I especially liked the fact that they first asked us how spicy we would like it. I do not like spice at all and asked them to omit it completely which they did. Service was very good. Although it was packed, we were not rushed at all. Our waiter came to take our drink order and after drinks were brought to the table asked if we wanted to have the guacamole. After the guacamole was finished, he came to take our dinner order which was a good thing because we were so stuffed with the guacamole, chips and warm tortillas that one of my friends and I changed from our original entrée selections to 1 salad and 1 entrée to share. The waiter was very nice about it and even bought out 3 plates for us to all have some salad. We had a filet mignon steak with some type of creamy mushroom sauce and white rice on the side and a short rib dish with spicy pico de galo, beans, and tortillas on the side. The steak was so tender and I just loved the sauce especially mixed with the rice. The short ribs were very tender. Obviously, I didnt even touch the pico de galo after being warned that it was very spicy. Our waiter automatically brought out two small plates and our entrée was placed in the middle. Dessert was a Mexican cheesecake with caramel in the middle and pecan crust, which I only had a forkful of.
Although the restaurant was packed, we were not rushed, seating was very comfortable. We had a booth seat and it was not that loud. We could have a conversation which is sometimes impossible at a very crowded restaurant. Food was definitely not typical Mexican as I know it. There were many interesting combinations on the menu and I recommend it as a fun place to go with friends.
