I went to Roberto's Fresh Mexican in Moorpark for a quick solo meal tonight. It is on the corner of New LA Ave and Moorpark Ave, in what used to be a sub sandwich shop (I think it was "The Sub Contractor").
It is a order-at-the-counter place. At 5:30 pm on a Monday, I was the sole diner until the end of my meal, when 2 other tables came in.
I got the veggie enchiladas - two large enchiladas filled with fresh sauteed spinach and mushrooms, green sauce, guacamole, sour cream, a sprinkling of crumbly cotija cheese. Served on a real plate, not styro, with a huge portion of tasty frijoles de olla (whole beans) and rice. $5.95, a bargain.
They have a salsa bar with 5 salsas, cruda (chunky), a mild de molcajete (ground), a green medium hot, an avocado salsa (not guacamole, a thinner but very flavorful sauce) and a hot (not really very hot) salsa negra.
They seem to specialize in seafood, had a couple styles of shrimp dishes on the specials board. They have posole and menudo on weekends.
I think they serve beer and have horchata and jamaica as well as soft drinks.
I thought it was good homestyle Mexican food, prepared with care and cheap. I will definitely go back.
