We were given a coffee bean roaster a few years ago - an alpenrost - and used it fairly regularly for a while. However, we fell out of the habit, primarily because our results were so erratic - sometimes terribly overdone, sometimes underdone. Any advise on getting more consistent results? [We do use an electronic scale and measure carefully, but probably should have spent more time listening to the whole process to master the first crack, second crack, etc.]
I've thought about getting back into it, since it made extraordinary coffee when it worked. I think the machine needs a serious cleaning, or even parts replaced b/c of gunky buildup.
Does anyone have experience with the alpenrost, or use other methods to roast beans at home? What suppliers do you use? (we've ordered from Sweet Maria's and 1st-line.com)
