Days 1 & 2 of my roadtrip took me to Mt. Pleaseant IA and Princeton, IL. Per suggestion, I hit the Oakland Mills Store located downtown?? in Oakland Mills, IA. This super small restaurant sits near the intersection of CR 46 and CR W55, ~4 miles SW of town on Co Rd 46. I was greeted quite warmly at this roadside foodstop that sits adjacent to the Skunk River or so I believe it's named. Naturally I jumped at the pork tenderloin suggestion and WOW...I wasn't disappointed. Within 5 minutes, I got a loaded 1/2" very tender tenderloin in a light breading that was super juicy and hotter than Hades..LOL I couldn't contain myself and jumped right in to a loin that stretched at least 3" in every direction beyond the edges of the large bun. It was so big that I ended up cutting 5 1" strips off the sides before I could get the sandwich in my ? oversize mouth. Great taste. I complemented it with a nice sized serving of some sweet corn nuggets. A cup of coffee and I was too loaded to try the obvious homemade pies that incuded a fresh made coconut cream....I was distressed that I had no room. I walked out for about $6 and hit the road. After beaucoup interviews, I ended up in Princeton about 8:30. Although I have no tale of culinary bounty here other than a medium Monicals deluxe pizza delivered quite timely to my hotel room at the ultra clean yet quite old Princeton Motor Lodge. I did want to add that the police dispatcher that I spoke to and two other residents raved about the Primequarter Steakhouse which is a grill-your-own spot about a half mile from I-80 on a side street. I'm sorry I was too tired to cook but it's on the list of things to do next time I'm in town. Next will be Trip 2 Days 3 & 4 in a separate post.
