I will be travelling to Rio and the surrounding areas (Paraty? Ilha Grande?) for 8 days in May........will be travelling on a budget, though mid-range restaurants might be okay if they are worth it.......looking for advice on:
-juice places, what juices to try
-good, not too dangerous, non-touristy (if possible) markets to buy fruit, check out scene.
-some (not necessarily fancy in any way) restaurants in less touristy neighborhoods, places no other tourist will know about (but wish they did)
-ANY other food advice, particularly for small meals, snacks, etc. Esp. what I should MAKE SURE to try.
Although it will be harder for me in Rio and Brasil than elsewhere in S. America (due to yes spanish, no portuguese), I would like to try to get places where locals are eating the GOOD stuff. Touristy places are fine, but I don`t want to waste my time eating any bad food since my sense is that really good food can be had at all price levels.
Also, any advice on travelling to surrounding areas and food there would be great too......
