Ok. I had not necesarily agreed with the Michael Bauer bashing I'd read on this board before. In the past, though I'm realizing it might be from years ago, I've agreed with many of his reviews. I actually enjoy his writing. But then, after a glorious review, I went to Rick's in the Sunset.

UGH. Really it's a glorified sports bar. And for a sports bar, maybe the food isn't terrible. But if I'm eating at a sports bar, I'll stick to a burger and fries. I had the Bauer-hyped pot roast and it tasted like cheap, fatty meat in a tomato sauce that subtracted, rather than added, flavor. Then again, maybe that's a good thing. I also tried the Kailua pork and some pieces were tasty, some were nasty/greasy, and the cabbage was undercooked. I left feeling nauseous.

Maybe it was an off-night but I wouldn't go back. Except for a beer and a game. I should mention that the staff was wonderful, attentive, and friendly.

Anyone else tried it? Was it just a bad night?
