Review of San Diego Area Chow

I just wanted to post this blog to give my opinion of several restaurants in the San Diego area that I visited during my business trip earlier in the week. I hope this blog will help someone in the future when deciding on where to eat. Thanks to all of the Chowhounds who helped me out with their suggestions:

Nine-Ten: Great restaurant in the La Jolla area. I had the pork belly appetizer, halibut main course, and basil sponge cake dessert. Everything was cooked to perfection. I wasn't a big fan of the basil sponge cake itself in the dessert (too much basil flavor in my mind), but the rest of the dessert (ice cream, cherries, cherry sauce) was excellent. I recommend this restaurant if you're looking for a good meal. Definitely a pricey place and there are probably better eats for the same price in the area.

Kaito Sushi: You can check out my review on http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/789516. Overall, good food.

Bird Rock Coffee Roasters: This place has a nice selection of coffee by the pound and they roast all coffee on site in small batches. I don't like the way they store the coffee they sell by the pound (in unsealed paper bags with a roast date stamped on the side) because the beans will go stale quickly. However, their cinnamon rolls are outstanding. Flaky crust, and nice gooey interior. The expresso drinks that they make behind the counter are so-so. Not much expresso flavor and seems to blend in with everything else in the drink.

Pannnikin Coffee: They sell all of the coffee by the pound in paper bags as well with no roast date stamped on the side. I had an iced mocha coffee and that was so-so. Not much coffee flavor.

Wrangler Family BBQ: Not my choice to go for lunch one day and I don't recommend the place. Their barbeque sauce is awful, their beef is a slow cooked short rib (which is okay), and the ham tastes like something I can by at the local grocery store. The sides are not much better.

I also went to an Italian restaurant by the air base, but that was awful as well.
