Review - Les Chevres, Aix, Olive et Gourmando - wow!

Hi all,

We recently spent two days in Montreal - have been a few times before so we wanted to try some new places. WE went to the International Flora show so we were in Old Montreal for most of the time.

Had a tasty lunch at Olive et Gourmando. I had the Cubano sandwich which was amazing and hubby had the grilled chicken with a side of the most delicious lentil and coconut soup. We split a Belgian chocolate and pecan cookie. I really enjoyed it here - we arrived before noon and it got really crowded at 12:30 (this was a Tuesday).

We went to Aix in the Hotel Place d'Armes for dinner. I ordered the grilled lobster with basil oil (at market price -- I was very surprised when we got the bill and it was only $38 - the same price as hubby's rib steak). The vegetables on the side were very tasty and the lobster was perfectly cooked. Hubby's rib steak came with parnsip fries which were very good. We split the crispy shrimp appetizer which was tasty. My only quibble is that I wish there were more beets in the accompanying beet and arugula salad.

Dinner the following night was at Les Chevres. Wow! Each bite was fantastic! That was definitely the highlight of our trip. Our appetizers consisted of a cold corn soup with orange "essence" and a cheese croquette (I can't remember exactly how it was phrased on the menu but I am not doing them justice). For mains we had the scallops (best I have ever eaten) and the milk-fed Quebec veal loin which was incredibly tender. The side vegetables were fantastic. Desserts were very innovative - delicious exotic ice creams with fresh fruit and exotic syrups. I can't speak highly enough of this restaurant -- the service was also wonderful. I should note that the wine list also looked lovely but I am pregnant so we didn't indulge...

Thanks to all for the suggestions.
