I've been thinking all week about going back to Real Azteca, the taqueria that Helen recommended on 163 St. in the Bronx. (Link to her original post below.)
So my friend Adam was in town and we made a quick trip up to the Bronx to return to it. We both had barbecued pork tacos which were incredible with onions, cilantro and tomatillo sauce, and then we split quesadillas de huitlacoche (a black fungus that grows on something and which tastes incredibly warm and rich) with melted cheese, followed by a steak taco (for Adam) and gorditas filled with chicharrones (pork rinds) with cheese and sour cream for me. She handmade the gorditas right in front of us.
Then she gave us a few extra chicharrones and urged us to eat them straight up with hot salsa on them... absolutely yummy.
This place is wonderful, and if you get this woman (one of the couple who own it, I think), she exudes warmth and friendliness as well.
