why is it that in the overwhelming majority of cases 'specials' at restaurants are recited by waitstaff, often with enticing descriptions of ingredients and preparation but the prices aren't mentioned? when asked, most staff will politely inform of the price. in some cases staff have to retreat to the kitchen for advisement. this is a pet peave for my wife. as she notes--would they leave the prices off the menu and let the customer guess? what do restaurant owners think, that price somehow has no relavance when it comes to 'specials'?
