Restaurant near Central Park that's good for kids and adults

I saw another post on this board about recommendations for restaurants for a child who is a foodie. This is a similar post, but not exactly...

I'm looking for a restaurant in the Central Park area (or Upper East or Upper West sides) that would satisfy foodie parents but would be welcoming to a young child.

We'll be in town to celebrate a family event and are looking for a special dinner out, a place where the adults would find interesting food - but we need a place where a 3.5 year-old would be comfortable. The food need not be geared to the child (she'll be happy with a plain bowl of rice or pasta or something similar).

It needn't (in fact, shouldn't) be a kid-centric restaurant at all, but shouldn't make a kid feel stiffled or unwelcome.

We enjoy all types of foods - ethnic included, as long as it's good :-).

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance (I love ChowHound!!!),
