Report on Galveston chow

Based on Chowhound recommendations, I tried the following restaurants last weekend. (1) Bennos--Friday night dinner. Pepper butter shrimp was great. Lots of folks were eating huge platters of crawfish. (2) Mosquito Cafe--had Saturday morning breakfast on their lovely enclosed patio. Not the standard seafood/grubby beach place. I had the breakfast bowl, with roasted new potatoes, sauteed spinach, bacon, Swiss cheese and two poached eggs. My husband enjoyed the frittata. (3) Shrimp N Stuff--Saturday dinner. Wonderful boiled shrimp (check their website for a coupon) and fried shrimp. Nice patio (but not as nice as Mosquito Cafe's). My husband ordered the fajita fries with great anticipation, turns out they were plain old fries. (4) The Spot--I read about great desserts, so tried the NY cheesecake. I specifically asked if it was frozen and was told "no". Well, I took it back to my room and had to wait an hour for it to defrost. Not that great, either. (5) Donut Shoppe--Sunday morning breakfast burrito heaven (though very few donuts). Try the Bronco Burrito, but ask them to omit the beans on it. (6) Steve's Landing in Crystal Beach/Bolivar--Sunday lunch; fried oysters were very good; skip the cajun potatoes and have the coconut meringue pie instead.
