My wife and I are semi regulars at the little red smokehouse in Carver, Ma. I have been very impressed with their dry rubbed smoked offerings, like their baby back ribs that are smoked for 14 hours! They also have a mean beef and pork chili that is more savory than hot. They cold smoke their cheddar cheese and that goes on top of the chili. Yum! They actually won the 2007 Martha's vineyard chili fest with it! It is a small place with alot of charm. The owner, Bob has put much into this place and it is well worth the drive for something that is unique to the south shore. He actually has fried green tomatoes on the menu when they are available.
My recommendation is getting a starter of either Mandy's smokey treats, that smoked cheddar I spoke of, deep fried and served with horse radish dipping sauce or an order of smokehouse corn bread or both! They have a really good creamed corn and whatever is left of that goes into the corn bread the next day! Then I like to get a combo platter with half ribs and half apple wood smoked turkey. You get two sides on top of that! Very good! My wife especially likes the beef brisket sandwich with bacon and cheddar cheese on top! It's amazing she's still thin the way she eats! I only look at a hot fudge sundae and gain 3 pounds. Oh well. There is also a full bar with some nice beer selections on tap and in bottle. Best times to go to avoid a wait for dinner is before 5pm and after 8pm on weekend nights. It is a popular place with locals for dinner and take out. Their hours are 4:00 to 11:30 Wednesday thru Friday and 11:30 to 11:30 on Saturdays and Sundays. The kitchen is open until 10:00 all nights and drinks are served until 11:30pm.
