Recommendations? They don't make them (refrigerators) like they used to

Our 18-year-old Whirlpool refrigerator is likely on its last legs, so I've just started looking for a replacement. Have you gotten a new one within the past year that you'd recommend? Did you shop online first, and was that a waste of time due to availability / need to check features in person? What trade-offs did you consider? I'm gasping a bit at the prices (we got ours in 2004 for $565 with tax & delivery).

Features pro/cons I'd especially like to hear about if you have: freezer on bottom, French door, door-in-door, gallon bin in door (does milk stay cold enough?)

Features we don't think we need: wi-fi, ice-maker, in-door water, side-by-side (I know I don't want that style)

Features we'd prefer: fit into current opening - max 36 deep, max 34 wide, max 69 tall. (But we could remove the over-the-fridge cabinets for taller.) At least 15 cf fridge section, 6 cf freezer section. Black or slate or stainless steel color.
