I could use some advice and guidance for a solo dinner in Paris on a Friday night in February.
A bit of background - I spend way too much of my work life traveling, but try my best to fit in a least a bit of fun and always some excellent food into a trip if at all possible. Despite my travel load though, I have very little Paris experience only having done a one week touristy trip with the wife and young kids last summer, as I never really have a business need to be in Paris.
I have a brutal 10 day, 10 city, around the world business trip in February, but I’ve managed to squeeze in a Friday afternoon/evening off in Paris, so I’m looking to make the most of it.
For me, it’s 100% about the food. I could care less about a “scene” or the cool factor of the restaurant. I’m looking for a ‘wow’ meal, particularly as this will be my one bit of relaxation and sanity during this trip. Ideally, my preference is for casual and laid back with amazing food vs. stuffy or “fancy”, but I can be adaptable if it’s worth it for the meal.
Also, I’ll be there solo, so looking for a place that a solo diner wouldn’t feel out of place. My favorites in most world cities that I spend time in are places with great bars that offer a full menu as it works great solo, but my Paris ignorance prevents me from knowing if that’s rational there.
Logistically, I’ll be staying at the Hyatt Madeleine in the 8th, but I am willing to walk, metro or uber it to anywhere reasonable. I’m looking to be at 150€ or less if possible for 1 and my French is essentially non-existent.
I’d really appreciate any recommendations or tips you can provide, both on restaurants that I should try, times to go, or anything else. Thanks in advance for helping me out being a Paris neophyte.
