Best New-to-You Recipes for 2020

masha | Jan 1, 202111:03 AM     80

What recipes did you make for the first time during 2020 that were a hit? Links to the recipe and/or to your earlier CH report on it are encouraged.

For myself, I would note that I made many more new recipes this year than I can ever remember. Why would that be, I wonder? Here were my favorites:

Tagliatelle with Prosciutto & Butter from NYT Cooking, https://cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/1.... I've actually never made it with tagliatelle. Rather, I've used either Rana brand fresh Paperdelle or Fettucine from the refrigerator case. This is sinfully rich but really easy & fast. (Per the comments on the website, I've always made it exactly as written -- i.e., with butter, not olive oil; no add-ins of mushrooms, green vegetables, or garlic.

Cheddar Cheese Biscuits from the King Arthur Flour website, https://www.kingarthurbaking.com/reci.... Big thank you to Munchkin Redux for recommending this recipe on the Dec 2020 What Are You Baking ("WAYB") thread. Picture of my version, which were extra big, linked here: https://www.chowhound.com/post/baking....

Melissa Clark's recipe for Pulled Pork & Spicy Slaw, but I serve it on flour tortillas, not sandwich rolls, https://cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/1.... This is stupid-easy to make so long as you have the time.

Arancini (October's DOTM), largely following a recipe from NYT Cooking, but using my standard recipe for risotto. NYT recipe linked here, https://cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/1... ; DOTM report, here, https://www.chowhound.com/post/octobe....

Dorie Greenspan's Marie-Helene's Apple Cake, from Epicurious, https://www.epicurious.com/recipes/fo.... See my report & picture on the Sept. 2020 WAYB, https://www.chowhound.com/post/baking....

"King Arthur Flour's Banana Crumb Muffins," as posted on the NYT Cooking, https://cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/6.... Picture & report on August 2020 WAYB, https://www.chowhound.com/post/baking....

Coq Au Vin (Jan 2020 DOTM), using a recipe from the 2019 edition of the Joy of Cooking. See report on the CAV DOTM thread, https://www.chowhound.com/post/coq-au....

Serious Eat's NY-style Pizza Sauce - a DOTM & COTM two-fer, https://www.seriouseats.com/recipes/2.... See report on COTM, https://www.chowhound.com/post/2020-c....

Shortcut Cassoulet, https://boulderlocavore.com/shortcut-.... My report is contained in the Thursday portion of this post on April's WMP thread, https://www.chowhound.com/post/weekly....

Old Fashioned Doughnut Bundt Cake from NYT Cooking, https://cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/1.... Report on January 2020's WMP thread, https://www.chowhound.com/post/weekly....

Yossy Arefi's recipe for Chocolate Lava Cakes, which I made for dessert on both Valentine's Day and last night for NYE, https://cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/1.... The perfect romantic dessert a deux.

Melissa Clark's One-Bowl Pound Cake recipe, the perfect pandemic improv, as it is written for various substitutions, https://cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/1.... My report on April's WAYB, https://www.chowhound.com/post/baking....
