Although we have been summer residents of Milford for many years, we had never gone to the Rainbow Gardens until last night, and sorry to say, it was not a good experience.
None of the 4 entrees were really above "average," and maybe it's just my neurosis, but I hate restaurants where all of the dishes have cute names "Pastabilities," etc....).
What was, in my judgement, absolutely inexcusable was how they handled the return of one dish. One of the people in our party ordered Halibut in hoisin sauce and when he took his first bite, he knew that something was not right. My wife then tasted it and it was obvious that the fish was rancid. We summoned the waitress to take the dish back into the kitchen (which she did without any problem), but she then returned to the table to ask our friend if he had ever had hoisin sauce...as the chef felt that it was the flavor of the sauce that he determined to be "off." This was CLEARLY not the issue (we are all serious foodies!!!) When asked whether the chef had tasted the fish, we were told that they were not allowed to taste a dish that was returned to the kitchen.
In fairness, they really did try to make amends for the bad food (no charge on the replacement dinner and offers of complimentary deserts), but we all found it incredulous that we had to be "tested" about the validity of our claim of spoiled fish.
Given other options, I don't think we will be returning any time in the forseeable future.
